If you’ve ever strolled down the yogurt aisle of a French grocery store, you’ve probably noticed that certain types of yogurts and desserts come in cute little single-serve glass jars instead of disposable cups like you’d find the US. In 2017, you can now find French-style yogurt in glass jars as well. Yoplait launched Oui yogurt that comes in glass jars just like French yogurt. If you just can’t bear recycling the glass containers and want to flex your DIY muscles, then this is the post for you.
Ways to use empty French glass yogurt jars
I admit that most of the time I put these little glass yogurt jars in the recycling bin because after your stack in the cabinet hits about four levels, they come crashing down when you go in there reaching for a mug and shatter all over the floor. I’ve done this about five times too many and have become a die-hard fan of plastic… but I do admit the glass ones really do have a special charm.
To save them from going in the recycling and instead using them to spruce up your home, here are some ways to repurpose those cute French glass yogurt jars after you’ve already eaten the yogurt. The ideas for how to repurpose Oui yogurt jars are endless.
Side note: Looking for the same type of authentic French yogurt jars in the US? The St. Benoit Creamery out of California should be your go-to. They have a new line of yogurts in glass jars and traditional ceramic ones too. I haven’t tried the yogurt but I’m sure someone reading has. Let us know if it’s any good! Also, as of mid-2017, Yoplait has a new line of French-style yogurt in glass jars called Oui. Keep reading for ways to use empty Oui yogurt jars and my favorite uses for Oui jars.
First, the little glass yogurt containers come in a few different shapes like the ones below from Nestle. They are all no more than about four inches tall so these aren’t giant pasta sauce jars. They’re little cuties. 😉 Let your imagination run wild when it comes to DIYs! Despite the slight variation in different brands’ shapes, the glass yogurt jars can all function the same way for the most part.

Next time you have an influx of French glass yogurt jars lying around, here are some DIY ideas to give them a second life:
1. Use Oui jars to show off your desserts, breakfast smoothie, parfait, etc.
Curious about what to do with Oui jars? If you’re having dinner guests, forget serving your chocolate mousse in a boring old bowl. Grab a few leftover glass containers from the pantry and serve your mousse, parfait, or whatever you’ve whipped up in a glass Oui jar to change it up. Your dessert will taste better when you present it beautifully. Or use it to make a French yogurt cake! Dessert uses for Oui yogurt jars are plentiful so get in the kitchen and see what you come up with. Another way to repurpose Oui jars in the food sphere is to use them in your breakfast presentation. Whip up a mini smoothie, parfait, overnight oats, chia pudding, or some other creative idea.
2. DIY candle with Oui jars
Whether you put a tealight in the bottom of the glass Oui jar as pictured above or fill it with wax and make it into a poured wax candle, the options are endless. Choose colored wax to make it festive or add essential oils to give your DIY candle a little extra flair. Tie on some decorative twine to add interest.
3. A mini vase
The weather will be warming up soon, so next time you bring home fresh flowers, put some of the smaller ones in a little glass container to spruce up your living space like I have above.
4. Cocktail glass
To put a spin on your boring old low-ball glass, try a new cocktail and serve it in one of the Oui glass yogurt containers with a funky straw.
5. Catchall for coins or paperclips
Use one of the wider glass containers as a catchall for coins, rubberbands or paperclips on your desk.
