If you’ve ever strolled down the yogurt aisle of a French grocery store, you’ve probably noticed that certain types of yogurts and desserts come in cute little single-serve glass jars instead of disposable cups like you’d find the US. In 2017, you can now find French-style yogurt in glass jars as well. Yoplait launched Oui yogurt that comes in glass jars just like French yogurt. If you just can’t bear recycling the glass containers and want to flex your DIY muscles, then this is the post for you.
Here are some ways to use empty glass yogurt containers!
Ways to use empty French glass yogurt jars
I admit that most of the time I put these little glass yogurt jars in the recycling bin because after your stack in the cabinet hits about four levels, they come crashing down when you go in there reaching for a mug and shatter all over the floor. I’ve done this about five times too many and have become a die-hard fan of plastic… but I do admit the glass ones really do have a special charm.
To save them from going in the recycling and instead using them to spruce up your home, here are some ways to repurpose those cute French glass yogurt jars after you’ve already eaten the yogurt. The ideas for how to repurpose Oui yogurt jars are endless.
Side note: Looking for the same type of authentic French yogurt jars in the US? The St. Benoit Creamery out of California should be your go-to. They have a new line of yogurts in glass jars and traditional ceramic ones too. I haven’t tried the yogurt but I’m sure someone reading has. Let us know if it’s any good! Also, as of mid-2017, Yoplait has a new line of French-style yogurt in glass jars called Oui. Keep reading for ways to use empty Oui yogurt jars and my favorite uses for Oui jars.
First, the little glass yogurt containers come in a few different shapes like the ones below from Nestle. They are all no more than about four inches tall so these aren’t giant pasta sauce jars. They’re little cuties. 😉 Let your imagination run wild when it comes to DIYs! Despite the slight variation in different brands’ shapes, the glass yogurt jars can all function the same way for the most part.

Next time you have an influx of French glass yogurt jars lying around, here are some DIY ideas to give them a second life:
1. Use Oui jars to show off your desserts, breakfast smoothie, parfait, etc.
Curious about what to do with Oui jars? If you’re having dinner guests, forget serving your chocolate mousse in a boring old bowl. Grab a few leftover glass containers from the pantry and serve your mousse, parfait, or whatever you’ve whipped up in a glass Oui jar to change it up. Your dessert will taste better when you present it beautifully. Or use it to make a French yogurt cake! Dessert uses for Oui yogurt jars are plentiful so get in the kitchen and see what you come up with. Another way to repurpose Oui jars in the food sphere is to use them in your breakfast presentation. Whip up a mini smoothie, parfait, overnight oats, chia pudding, or some other creative idea.
2. DIY candle with Oui jars
Whether you put a tealight in the bottom of the glass Oui jar as pictured above or fill it with wax and make it into a poured wax candle, the options are endless. Choose colored wax to make it festive or add essential oils to give your DIY candle a little extra flair. Tie on some decorative twine to add interest.
3. A mini vase
The weather will be warming up soon, so next time you bring home fresh flowers, put some of the smaller ones in a little glass container to spruce up your living space like I have above.
4. Cocktail glass
To put a spin on your boring old low-ball glass, try a new cocktail and serve it in one of the Oui glass yogurt containers with a funky straw.
5. Catchall for coins or paperclips
Use one of the wider glass containers as a catchall for coins, rubberbands or paperclips on your desk.

I use mine as mini vases for small posies of flowers from the garden…tie some raffia round the neck of the jar for a rustic look. Also I bung a tea light inside and use outside in the evenings…( when it’s warm enough to entertain outside, which in the UK is about three times a year!)

Wonderful ideas! Looks rustic, and pretty with the flowers. There’s always a great many uses for jars such as these! Taller glass jars I use to hold pens and pencils…perfect on my desk as little catch-all jars and for bits of this and that for my crafting too!

I so Love those yogurt jars. When I was in school in Paris, I took home as many of the La Fermerie jars as I could because for two years they came in a periwinkle color, which is my favorite color. Now I use them in my business for flowers or display. You cannot believe how many times people wanted to buy those adorables. I have never seen them in that color when I have been to Paris since, but I will keep hoping they bring it back!

They’re back!

I know I’m a it late to this party, but just wanted to chime in to say that Saint Benoit yogurt is amazing. Like a silken cloud. It is, in my opinion, the absolute best yogurt in the US.
I have a million of their jars in my cabinet & am looking for ways to repurpose them, which led me to your post.
Diane says
Awesome, where do you buy it in the USA? Do you have a favorite flavor?
NOJuju says
I buy it at Whole Foods, because I don’t live in the San Francisco Bay area. My favorite flavor is plain, to be honest. I love it with fruit, a dab of jam or drizzled honey. The meyer lemon is also lovely. Ok, they are all lovely.

I love these little jars, at Christmas they even have festive ones. When I have guests over I like to use them for all sorts of treats, breadsticks or veggie sticks in the taller ones, olives or dips in the smaller ones. Great for flowers too!
Also the taller ones make a cute little cup for a Café allonger.

Stumbled on your site looking for ideas to recycle yogurt jars! Yes, Saint Benoit is very tasty yogurt. I recently tried Yoplait Oui. It is not bad, I like Saint Benoit better, plus they are based in California which makes it close to local for me. Thanks for the ideas, I was thinking it would be great to have a way to put lids on so I could use them making my own yogurt!

I find the out jars perfect to keep me honest measuring my wine allotment to the recommended 5 oz. They are so cute, I don’t even mind.
Carla says
Thankfully, If you happen to find yourself with just too many little glass jars, glass is 100% recyclable.
Edith says
Are the glass jars of oui yogurt safe for baking and at what level temperature and for how long?
Diane says
Hi there, you may want to email Yoplait for sure. I wouldn’t want to give you incorrect info. Thanks.
Cindy says
Did you find out if these jars are safe in the oven as I want to cook small portions of pumpkin pie in the jars (no crust). I found the plastic lids on http://www.TEMU.com. It would be nice to just pull out of small jar of pumpkin pie out of the refg, add some whipped cream and bypass the crust and calories that go with it.

I keep my sugar substitute packets in an Out jar by my coffee pot.
OUI also has lids you can buy,. I have clear and blue. I use them in my craft and sewing room.

I wish we could buy the yogurt with the plastic lids already on them thereby eliminating the need to order online. I use mine to put jello and pudding into them and if I had the plastic lids, I would put snacks in lunch boxes.
Please think about already putting the plastic lids on the jars.,
Love the yogurt,

You can order these plastic lids that fit the Oui jars on TEMU.com. I am trying to find out if one can bake in the little jars. I want to bake pumpkin pie in the jars…without the crust.

Being single, mthese jars are perfect for leftovers. I cover them with a square of clear plastic and secure with a rubber band below the rim. Perfect single serving of anything.

I make soy candles with mine and decorate with flowers and ribbon for my neighbors in my senior housing. Just made one this week with musical stickers for a gentleman who is a musician and then used black ribbon. Really special.

Can you bake in these little jars? If so what temperature is safe?
Thank you..

My father actually found a hack for these. He used these upside down all around each of my strawberry plants and now there are less holes in my strawberries. Yes! Better that using pesticide against the slugs and bugs eating my strawberries. Oh and my little ones like using them as vases for flowers
