Hello there and happy Monday to you! If you follow me on Instagram, you know that we’re just getting back from a long weekend in Brittany — it was my birthday gift from Tom (thank you!!!). I absolutely love this region and we were up here last year this time of year as well. Love, love, love. Vannes is in the Morbihan department of Bretagne and it’s an easy drive from where we live. We stayed outside the city of Vannes in a traditional gite (complete with wooden ceiling beams and exposed stone walls) which was perfect for (re)discovering the area.
Go!
Our weekend up near Vannes
Brittany has a reputation for being rainy and it rained pretty much the whole day Saturday, but aside from that, we lucked out! For me, discovering all the little beaches and hiking trails is so much fun. Often we’d just pick a spot on the GPS map and go… seeing what we’d find on the way. Dagny absolutely adores walks on the beach and doesn’t care that the water is cold or that she gets all sandy and muddy. It’s all part of the fun! 😉
First up, Vannes. It’s a city of about 55,000 people. Restaurants line the sailboat-filled harbor and then if you turn around, you’ll see the medieval gates leading to the old city. There are a bunch of stores including mainstream ones like Sephora and Bocage as well as a bunch of little shops to get regional products. Another highlight? Timber-framed houses that look like something out of a fairy tale.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Vannes looks gorgeous. I must have been quite near there in October when I drove from Le Havre to just south of Nantes.
