If you’ve been reading Oui in France for years, this Monday Mishmash post might feel like a blast from the past. It’s a conversational roundup-style post where I’d update you on happenings around here, share some fun links and let you know about anything else going on. But I stopped writing Monday Mishmash posts in favor of a newsletter (you can sign up at the top of the page or below this post right above the comment section) but maybe it’s time to dust off MM every now and then.
Monday Mishmash 9/21/20
Salut, tout le monde! I haven’t done a Monday Mishmash since January, but hey, here I am. Do you like these types of posts?
Is everyone doing OK? Well, as OK as expected? It’s been one hell of a year and it’s only September.
We were on vacation on a boat along the Charente River and I’m working on getting up a blog post about it this week if all goes to plan. I’m still trying to get back into the swing of things after a magical trip that felt “normal,” like COVID didn’t exist. I just published a video about what a self-piloted boating trip is like over on YouTube that’ll tie into that post about the trip later this week. For now, check out this short drone montage below that I put together of some of my best shots from the trip. It’s only 2 minutes.

A few things:
-If you’re into Advent calendars like I am, this fun one from Bonne Maman is out early and it’s a limited edition so grab yours now. It features 24 spreads/honey varieties and lets you have a taste of France each morning with your coffee or tea.
-I starting watching The Social Dilemma last night on Netflix and if you’ve ever felt sad, anxious, or pissed off after going on social media, it’s a must-watch. It’s a documentary that features candid interviews with former employees of social media companies and brings up important questions about mental health and the ethics of social media.
-I’ve been loving my app workouts even more than usual lately. My BFF Peloton is killing it with new bike bootcamps and barre classes coming out today. SO psyched for Apple Fitness+ coming out later this year too, and Les Mills is also earning its spot in my rotation. Have you discovered any new fitness activities? I got back into running earlier this year and wrote about how much I love/hate it.

-RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What an amazing woman who truly was a champion of justice. The Supreme Court has big shoes to fill.
-I’m not a mom or a home decor enthusiast, but I love Gabby of Design Mom‘s writing and how outspoken she is about politics and social justice. She also lives in Normandy with her family so her France content is a fun read, too.
-Do you buy or sell clothes online? Check out this post from my friend Lily about the gentrification of thrifting. It’s a really thoughtful blog post complete with a video.
Also, last thing, if you’ve lived in France for over a year and would like to contribute to an upcoming collaborative post, check out my stories on Instagram for more details. I’d like to know the easiest and most difficult parts of living in France for you. Deadline is Sept. 24 and it’s open to all situations and nationalities (as long as you’ve lived in France for over a year). Looking forward to your replies!
OK, that’s all for now. Back to work…

I watched The Social Dilemna last week. I don’t have a Facebook account for many reasons, but NOW I understand what the hell is going on with Twitter. I’m practising social media distancing. It works great.
I so want this Bonne Maman advent calendar!!! I miss these confitures. I can find a few flavours here and there in Ottawa but they are super expensive.
