Edgy, whimsical and coolly chic. Those are the words that immediately came to mind upon entering the Hotel Original Paris. Located in the 11th arrondissement not far from the Bastille, this perfectly plum Paris hotel has enough of a hip factor to appeal to an artsy, young crowd and enough class to impress even the most discerning traveler.

UPDATE: This hotel is now called Le Petit Beaumarchais Hotel & Spa.
Paris, France hotels run the gamut from budget to uber-luxurious. Many of us want to stay at a property that’s somewhere in the middle — enough luxury to feel like a treat but not enough to bankrupt you. I recently stayed one night at the four-star Hotel Original Paris — a very colorful, new boutique hotel whose aesthetic was created by designer Stella Cadente. It’s fantasy at its finest and will make you feel like you’re in a dream land.
Some quick facts on the Hotel Original Paris France:
Location: 8, boulevard Beaumarchais 75011 Paris – France
Website: www.hoteloriginalparis.com
Price: Single rooms start at about 150 €/night (with current exchange rate, $195)
The property has just under 40 rooms, so you’ll find that the multilingual staff is attentive and happy to help you with anything you may need. The rooms have different themes and you can check out all the cool details here in the Hotel Original Gallery. Ours was a forest/animal theme called forêt enchantée (enchanted forest) complete with animal lights, a leafy light fixture over the bed and other touches that made us feel like we were somewhere else. A highlight of the stay was the giant bed which is pretty rare in France. There was also a full size bathtub in the room (literally at the foot of the bed) which was definitely out of the ordinary but wholly welcomed! We got a great night’s sleep and although we were on the first floor, the windows shut tightly to block out the street noise. Major plus since the area is bustling!
Our room had two robes and two pairs of slippers, an array of bath products, a room safe, hair dryer and a radio that you could plug your iPod/iPhone into to play music or charge. Well-behaved pets stay free which is a major plus for travelers who won’t leave their furry family members behind. And other plus? Wi-Fi is free for guests.
The next morning, we had a wonderful French breakfast in the dining area. The decor here is more neutral and the space is adorned with fiber optic lights and a more subdued feel. It’s a beautiful space. We had a selection of fresh pastries and jams along with Nespresso coffee, yogurt and fruit. The breakfast is 12 € per person and worth it, in my opinion.
Hotel Original Paris Pros
- Location!
- Free Wi-Fi
- Pets stay free of charge!
- SUPER comfortable California King size bed
- Reasonably priced for Paris
- Friendly staff
- Yummy French breakfast
- Room decor
Hotel Original Paris Cons
- No gym

- No coffee maker in the room
- Room decor
Note on decor: The room decor could be a pro or a con and I feel it’s polarizing in that you’ll love it or hate it. We loved it, but it is definitely in-your-face like nothing you’ve seen before. An open-minded traveler who wants something out of the ordinary would be delighted to stay in one of the standout rooms at Hotel Original. A more conservative traveler looking for calming, neutral decor or a family with kids might not appreciate a bathtub next to the bed though or the mood lighting. It just depends on what you’re looking for.
Hotel Original is a great choice for: Couples looking for a romantic weekend away and those open to super cool, artistic spaces. Anyone who doesn’t want a standard looking hotel would fall in love with Hotel Original.
Hotel Original may not be a great choice for: Conservative travelers looking for a “normal” hotel or those used to big, American-style hotels. It also is not suited to families traveling with children (which may be a good thing for some) or business travelers (very small desk, rather dark).
Final thoughts: Tom and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Original Paris and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone who may be visiting Paris and is looking for a fun, beautiful hotel in a prime location. It’s definitely worth a look and you may just fall in love with it like we did…!
