Everyone always says time flies and that’s because the cliche is annoyingly true. December 31 is my birthday and this past year in France has been so much fun. Need some inspiration for the year ahead? This 30 things every woman should have and know by the time she’s 30 post on Glamour inspired me to keep on looking forward to all the things life has to offer. So whatever age you are, read on!
GO!
No matter your age, you can find some inspiration in this Glamour post about 30 things to do before you turn 30. Some of my favorites from the piece?
Things to know:
- Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you should not take it personally.
- Not to apologize for something that is not your fault.
- Why they say life begins at age 30.
Things to have:
- One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
- Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
And a few of my own things to do before you turn 30:
Get a passport and use it: Travel has been one of the things I’ve enjoyed most this past decade. It’ll enrich you in ways you won’t even realize until you’ve experienced it. My passport is stamped with ink from New Zealand, Mexico, Morocco, Ireland, Croatia, Italy and more. Regrets? Not a single one.
Save, save, save: Many of us in our 20s don’t have a care in the world, but saving your money is important. Even if it’s just a small amount per month, put some cash away in a separate account and let it grow. You’ll thank yourself later.
Splurge on something you want: OK, so this one sounds contradictory, but in your 20s, you can make a few impulsive decisions and recover just fine. Want that Louis Vuitton bag, some nice Louboutins? Go for it! It’s okay to put a slight dent in your savings once in a while. Disclaimer: Don’t be reckless. If you can barely pay your rent, don’t splurge on something out of your budget.
Love like you’ve never had your heart broken: Let your guard down and open yourself up to someone. Love is a beautiful thing and when you find that person you can be yourself around, nothing else will matter.
Accept your shortcomings, let go of regrets and let the past be the past: There’s no point in dwelling on things that don’t matter anymore.
Do at least three things that scare you: Skydiving? Drag racing? Moving to a new country? Starting your own business? Public speaking? Telling that special guy/gal you love him? Suck it up and do it!
My point here is to not let life pass you by.
Whatever age you are and whatever you’ve been meaning to do, this is the year to do it. No list is insurmountable. Start somewhere, focus and enjoy the ride!
Pushing yourself as you get older is what keeps you young! Great post!
Thanks for a good list. I am past 30 but your point is true regardless of your age … Don’t let life pass you by!
Yup, always have to push ourselves and keep life interesting. Happy New Year!
