I’ve been on a bit of a bar kick lately. They make great snacks, are easy to just throw in your bag and pack a nutritional punch that will leave you feeling energized and healthy instead of lethargic and bloated. For a healthy snack option the next time your stomach rumbles, stock up on my favorite healthy protein bars.
GO!
Healthy protein bars
These healthy protein bars are widely available in the US and you can also find find a couple in Europe as well. Check each company’s website for where to buy.
KIND & STRONG
For a savory protein boost, STRONG & KIND bars are almond based and have flavors that will keep you coming back for more. They have a product line with a variety of bars but the STRONG & KIND bars deliver 10 grams of protein and come in mouthwatering flavors like Honey Mustard, Thai Sweet Chili and more. I was intrigued, especially since I usually gravitate toward chocolate/sweet flavors of protein bars, and realllly liked these. The texture is crunchy and the bars are big enough to satisfy. I’m normally not a huge lover of almonds but in these bars, the almonds provide the perfect blend of texture and flavor and everything just works. (Amazon, $15 for a box of 12)
GoMacro Macrobar Minis
GoMacro Macrobar Minis are vegan, macrobiotic and gluten free and come in just the right size to fuel a workout or for a quick snack. Like their full-size cousins, the regular Macrobar, these minis will delight your taste buds with delectable flavors like peanut butter, almond butter + carob, cherries + berries and more. They clock in at about 100 calories each meaning these mini bars won’t ruin your appetite or diet. Just sweet enough and with a chewy texture, these all-natural bars are absolutely excellent and are a must-have for when you need a quick pick me up. (Amazon, $35 for box of 15 regular-size bars)
Pulsin’ Snack Bars
Pulsin’ is a UK-based brand that makes delicious dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan bars that have an almost fudge-like texture and all-natural ingredients to keep you satisfied. Have one of these squares for a snack or whenever you need an energy boost and you’ll discover why this quickly growing brand is worth your hard-earned cash. With flavors like Raspberry & Goji Raw Choc Brownie and Vanilla Choc Chip, it’s hard to pick a favorite but Vanilla Choc Chip is an excellent flavor to start with and is also lower in sugar than some of the other varieties. (Buy on the Pulsin’ site in the UK, available at Whole Foods in the US)
Quest Bars
I’ve made my love of Quest protein bars well known and had to include them here. My favorite flavors are Cookie Dough and Cookies & Cream but you really can’t go wrong. Even better? Pop ’em in the microwave for 10 seconds for a warm, gooey treat. Fuel up after a workout and feed your muscles with 20 grams of protein and you might just get hooked on these super-popular bars that have taken the fitness world by storm. These are a staple in care packages from my family. 😉 (Amazon, $25 for box of 12)

Hi Diane! While I try not to rely on them too much, I like to have protein bars a few times a week. I’ve actually never had a Quest bar. Some of my favorites are the regular KIND bars, Clif Builder bars and some LUNA ones, but I also enjoy the GoMacro one you showed above. Perhaps my favorite are the locally produced kind you buy only at Whole Foods. I agree that having a bar with you for hunger emergencies is always a good thing too! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

Wish I had a Whole Foods here!! Definitely will try some locally produced ones next time I’m back home. I love that place. And you’ve never had a Quest bar???? Hope Cali is treating you well. Have a wonderful weekend too!

I heard KIND bars are coming to France. Do you know where I can find them online?
Diane says
Hi there, I’ve seen them only in person at Monop’/Monoprix in Paris: http://www.bibamagazine.fr/style-de-vie/cuisine/be-kind-les-barres-energetiques-healthy-et-sans-gluten-debarquent-en-france-30393
But I believe they’re distributed through this company in France, so maybe send them an email to check: http://www.alter-food.com/produits-naturels-et-responsables/be-kind
I also googled for you and see that My Little American sells Kind too. ;0)

Hope that helps!

I’ve never seen the kind and strong bars before! I tried the quest bars and wasn’t much of a fan–I think I need to try a different flavor.
Diane says
Definitely try the KIND bars and maybe try a Quest cookie dough or cookies & cream. 😉 Have a great week!
