Something I hear from those of you in the U.S. whenever I share content about French bread is that your local bread is lousy. You absolutely love the bread in France and wish you could get that quality at home. Well, to that end, let me introduce you to Wildgrain, a premium bake-from-frozen bread/pasta/pastry subscription box delivery service that you’re going to need in your life.
You get a box of assorted frozen deliciousness like sourdough bread, artisanal pastries, handcut pasta and more that will go from freezer to table in 25 minutes or less. Easy peasy, there’s no commitment, and the quality is INCREDIBLE. Plus, my readers get $10 off their first Wildgrain box and free croissants with every order via my Wildgrain discount code!
Wildgrain box review
Who can resist warm, delicious fresh bread? Not me. But when I’m not in France, truly amazing bread is hard to come by. And I haven’t quite nailed my from-scratch-bread-baking game yet. I recently discovered Wildgrain and they deliver frozen bread and pastries right to your door. Store it in your freezer until you’re ready to bake it, and voilà — perfectly baked bread and pastries every time!
My dad and I were sent a Wildgrain box to review the last time I was in the U.S. and we loved devouring every last bite.
Here’s what we got in our Wildgrain box:
–Slow Fermented Olive Oil Ciabatta
–Plain Sourdough Loaf
–Sourdough Walnut Bread
–Fresh Fettuccine (12 oz)
–Fresh Tonnarelli (12 oz)
–Raspberry Lemon Biscuits (6-pack)
–Croissants (4-pack)
Although you can’t choose the exact items in your very first Wildgrain box, you’ll be able to make substitutions in subsequent boxes so you can have a more customized order if specific items are important to you.
Everything is shipped in a box with both gel packs and dry ice to make sure it it all stays frozen. This was definitely a major plus in the Florida heat. You get tracking ahead of time and an email once the package is delivered so you can get it in the freezer ASAP.
Tip: Be careful not to touch the bag of dry ice with your bare hands as you put items in the freezer. It burns!
Something I appreciated was that each item was individually wrapped — with a nutrition and instructions label — so there’s no chance of freezer burn. A perk with frozen items is that you don’t have to eat everything right away like you would with fresh bread and can take your time. You have a three-month expiration window (technically six months but for the best taste, bake everything within three months of delivery).
If you don’t finish a whole loaf after you bake it, you can refreeze it without a decrease in quality. Rest assured you’ll finish every last crumb without anything going to waste.
A major perk is that from your freezer to your table, nothing in your Wildgrain box bakes for more than 25 minutes. Preheat your oven, pop in your baked goods, and that’s it. It’s super easy to have delicious bread and pastries in no time at all. If you’re not a great baker, don’t worry. You can’t mess this up.
While everything was excellent, we especially loved the Wildgrain bread. The ciabatta and sourdough bread, which baked up to crispy perfection, blew us away. We had the ciabatta with our fresh pasta one night and then on Day 2, we toasted up a few slices to go with our breakfast. The croissants were also a 10/10. Crispy, flaky and just perfect. YUM!
There were no signs that they came out of the freezer and you’d have no clue they weren’t made fresh right before baking if I didn’t tell you. There’s nothing like warm bread right out of the oven!
What is Wildgrain?
Based in Boston, Wildgrain is a premium bake-from-frozen artisan bread subscription service that launched in May 2020. What I love is that they offer high quality products and pride themselves on using seasonal, clean ingredients and artisanal processes.
Wildgrain sends out an email four days before a scheduled shipment so you can make changes to your membership such as skipping it entirely, adding items on, or making substitutions. Keep in mind that there’s no commitment and you can order as often as you’d like. Skip, reschedule, or cancel at any time.
Wildgrain offers two types of boxes: The Mixed Wildgrain Box, which has sourdough bread, handcut pasta, and artisanal pastries, and the Wildgrain Bakery Box, which has sourdough bread, breakfast goods, and artisanal pastries.
Here are some examples of what you might get in your box: English muffins, brioche rolls, all kinds of fresh bread, chocolate croissants, chocolate chip cookies and more.
With my link, you’ll also get $10 off plus 4 FREE croissants for life.
Something else I love that I wanted to mention in my Wildgrain review is that for every new customer, they donate six meals to those in need at The Greater Boston Food Bank. It’s important to me to support companies that are doing good in the world.
How much does a Wildgrain box cost?
Let’s talk about the price. A Wildgrain box costs $89 with free shipping. While it’s not a cheap service, you are getting quality artisanal products delivered right to your door.
Shipping is free for the customer but note that each box comes packed with the very necessary dry ice and ice packs which are a cost to Wildgrain. So while the shipping is free, it’s clearly an expense for Wildgrain and that gets factored into the price.
Regarding the cost, Wildgrain explains that their prices are in line with brick-and-mortar artisan bakeries and specialty shops and the cost “reflects the high-quality ingredients and labor process that go into creating the products (vs. mass-produced products sold at the supermarket that are made with low-cost, low-quality ingredients).”
There’s always a higher price for higher quality products like there is with organic produce and grass-fed, free-range meats.

Is Wildgrain worth it?
OK, now to answer the most important question in my Wildgrain review: Is a Wildgrain box worth it?
YES!
It’s true that Wildgrain is a premium service that might not fit into everyone’s weekly budget (or freezer), but I think it’s a worthwhile service if you love bread, pasta, and pastries and want to treat yourself or a bread lover in your life.
It’s fun getting a beautiful, high-quality selection of bread and other goodies that will add a special touch to any meal.
I think a Wildgrain box can also be a great treat for a special occasion like a housewarming party, dinner party, around the holidays, or any other event where some delicious bread/pastries are a must.
If you live in an area where your bakery selection leaves a lot to be desired, a Wildgrain box is the perfect solution.
Wildgrain review: PROS
High quality, delicious products. I was surprised at just how good the bread and pastries were. The bread is truly delicious and we loved the selection of products we received.
Conveniently delivered to your door. Your Wildgrain box is delivered with dry ice, so rest assured everything stays frozen until it safely makes its way to you. Put all your goodies in the freezer until you’re ready to bake them. Forget running out to the bakery. The convenience factor is one of the top pros for sure and something I want to highlight here in my Wildgrain box review.
Foolproof and easy to make right from the freezer. Even if you aren’t a baker, you can’t mess this up! Just pop your bread right into the oven and within 25 minutes, you’ll have a perfectly baked loaf every time. No defrosting needed and no messy cleanup. For busy families, this is a major plus.
Wildgrain review: CONS
Only available in the U.S. Whenever I share products from France, those of you living elsewhere feel like you’re missing out and vice versa when I share U.S.-only products. For now, Wildgrain only delivers in the U.S. (not available in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico).
Can’t chose the exact items in your first box. Your first Wildrain box comes with a set selection of items. The items fall into certain categories such as bread or pasta but you can’t choose the specific types of bread, etc. in your first box. This isn’t an issue if you love everything, but if you’re picky or have a food allergy like me (citrus), it could mean that you receive something you don’t care for or can’t eat.
For future Wildgrain boxes, you can customize your order, though. The good news is Wildgrain is working on this and hopefully we’ll be able to choose exactly what we want in our very first box. I’ll be sure to update my Wildgrain review when the company makes that change.
The price. Wildgrain offers a premium product and service and the price reflects that. It might not be in everyone’s budget. Definitely take advantage of my Wildgrain discount code below!

Wildgrain box review: Final thoughts
I was super impressed with the quality of Wildgrain products, especially the bread and croissants. And this is coming from someone who lives in France and is used to getting excellent bread. I think a Wildgrain box is a tasty addition to any bread lover’s freezer and is perfect for a special occasion, a great gift idea, or whenever you want delicious carbs. You won’t be disappointed!

It’s such a great service, especially for those of us who are short on time, or don’t want to try our hand at baking bread and pastries. You’ll love it!

I just received my first box (8/16/23) and I was able to customize the selections on my first box. To be honest, I wouldn’t’ hive ordered it if I couldn’t.
