If you’re a pet owner like me who loves to online shop, it makes sense to look for online pet stores. No one has time to always shop at brick and mortar stores and the convenience factor of online shopping for pet products can’t be beat. So when you move abroad to France, what are your options? Well, when it comes to buying pet supplies online in France, you have a bunch of options but which stores are the best?
Buying pet supplies online in France
Shopping online for your pet makes it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for at a price that works for your budget.
What are some of my favorite stores for buying pet supplies online in France?
Let me say again that I love shopping for pet supplies online. In France, I can’t seem to find high quality dog treats like I can back home but I haven’t given up. My main issue is that prepared raw diets for dogs don’t exist here. How do we get it? I buy the food online and have a very kind family member ship it to me. Because of the costs associated with shipping, getting the best price possible is key and in the US, I buy my dog’s pet food online from Chewy.com.
So where do we shop for the best deals on pet supplies in France?
Here’s my list of some of the best pet stores online in France (in no particular order):
1. Zooplus
Zooplus has over 8,000 products and 250 brands in their online store, which is headquartered in Germany and was founded in 1999. For those interested in a raw diet for dogs in France, Zooplus has BARF diet dog food, which is not mainstream in France, as well as gluten-free kibble and other specialty products.
2. Wanimo
Wanimo is another big online French pet store with a wide selection of items for all types of pets. With products for dogs, cats, rodents, birds, fish, and more, you’ll have no problem finding whatever your pet needs. A nice perk is that you get free shipping on purchases over 29 euros.
3. Amazon.fr
Amazon is my go-to for all kinds of goods, so why not pet products too? As you’d expect from Amazon, the French site has a wide variety of pet supplies online. Sometimes you can find products from the USA including specialty treats and more. I’ve found Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried dog food on Amazon.fr at a good price, so check back often for 3rd party sellers who are always updating their stock.
4. MaxiZoo
This is a big name brick and mortar pet store in France that’s owned by a German parent company. They have a wide variety of pet products including food and accessories as well as a friendly staff. Pets are allowed to come shop in person, of course. They offer water testing for your aquarium and even have a “toutou bar” up front by the entrance so your dog can have a quick drink and snack.
Happy shopping!

Thanks for sharing! I just learned about Wag.com. I usually shop for most of my items in Amazon.com.
I’m going to check the others out. Thanks!

When having items shipped to you from family in the US do you have to pay duty tax upon receipt of your packages in France? There have been several things I would love to have sent, but I wasn’t sure what additional costs may be associated with having a family member ship it to me.
Thanks!

Hi Tracy, definitely not an expert on this but I’m happy to share my experience. The duty on your end depends on a few things. First, what carrier you’re using to ship the products, if a company or individual is sending it and what you’re actually sending.
If an individual is sending you stuff via USPS (regular post office), unless they declare a high value (only box sent via USPS i’ve had to pay a duty on was one declared at US$250) you most likely won’t incur any charges upon delivery. I believe the boxes are xrayed for explosives and the like and not to see if the person sending it itemized everything in the box. The post office just deals with too many packages to be that thorough. Forbidden PAM spray has gotten through, so has nail polish and I even took a chance on some pricy electronics (not declared on form to avoid theft) and while maybe it was a risk some wouldn’t take, it worked out for me. So my advice would be to have family send you stuff via USPS and keep the value on the form at under US$50. You won’t have any issues for pet food, toys, housewares, clothes, shoes and thinks like that.
Now on the other hand, expect to almost always pay duties on anything sent to you from the US via FedEx & DHL. A family member rush shipped me a $50 gift card one year for Christmas (I never would have said OK to this because I knew I’d have to pay) and they declared the value as $50 although the card probably cost 20 cents. So of course, FedEx calculated the duty on the $50 and no clue how they come up with it but I paid US$30 on that. Was really mad. I’ve also gotten hit hard on makeup coming via FedEx.
My parents send me boxes via DHL now and they arrive in 2 days, the driver is a dream and they’re my preferred carrier. But depending on what is declared, DHL will charge duties and sometimes it’s ridiculous. But the fact that things are shipped out of Miami on a Wed and arrive here at noon on Fri outweighs the fee (happens half the time on bigger boxes). DHL has removed nail polish and PAM spray and are really diligent about checking for contraband (not so much if declared value is correct and matches what’s in box but are careful when they scan the boxes).
So overall, if you can wait a week to 10 days for the box, go with USPS, fudge the form a little and you’ll be fine. Again, this is just based on my experience — hopefully it was helpful!
