We’re all too familiar with bad gifts. You know what I’m talking about. The ugly sweater, random knickknack you’ll never use and things that just aren’t your style. Well, here’s my take on a holiday gift guide with things I’d actually be thrilled to receive.
Read on for my roundup of Christmas gift ideas that don’t suck!
Christmas gift ideas that don’t suck
To keep organized
Whitney puts the pretty back into planners and any girl would be delighted to receive one of these beauties. The Day Designer’s signature feature is a single page for every day (and combined pages for weekends) making planning your month a breeze. The only problem is that these planners are so popular that Whitney’s shop isn’t opening up again until January. But print out a pic of the planner for your giftee with a note that it’ll be promptly delivered in January. It’s worth the wait. (Whitney English, $59)
For your morning beverage
Everyone needs a mug so why not grab a cool one like the Emily McDowell mug pictured above. This ceramic morning must-have speaks the truth and has a pretty font to boot. Sometimes it’s just too early for words and I definitely want this one for my collection! (Emily McDowell, $16)
For looking stylishly fit
I’ve professed my love for the stylish subscription-based activewear company Fabletics and a subscription for your gym lovin’ girl is a gift she’ll adore. Half of feeling fit is actually looking the part, so check out their fun and affordable outfits. My fave? The Lima Capri. (Fabletics, prices vary)
For your couch
We all have a favorite place, so find yours over at Catstudio, and why not display it proudly via a throw pillow. These beautiful hand-embroidered pillows are colorful and fun and are exactly what your living room has been missing. They also make $20 mini pillows that make great ornaments or door knob decor as well as a lovely France dish towel in the same style. I like the France and New York ones (and thanks to A Lady Goes West for introducing me to the brand). (Catstudio, $158)
For your arm
While I don’t have any tattoos, I’m a sucker for a well-done temporary one. These watercolor-inspired butterflies are really pretty and would make a great stocking stuffer for the girl on your list who likes to change it up every now and again. They seem to be realistic as well, and affordable. (Tattly, $5)
For your desk
For the person with the cursing problem on your list, this F Bomb Paperweight is just the thing. Hold down those loose papers and get a chuckle every time you look at it. If he doesn’t know he curses too much, he does now (Sugarpost, $44)
For food
We don’t always have time to cook and when we do, it’s not the most inventive cuisine. Take the guesswork and prep out of cooking with a gift card to Blue Apron where the recipient gets a box of all the ingredients they need to prepare a fantastic meal. Ingredients are pre-portioned and come with a recipe card that tells you everything you need to know. (Blue Apron, prices vary)
For your well-being
Tea drinkers will love this Wellness Tea Sampler from Kusmi Tea. It comes with cool flavors like Boost and Euphoria and is perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up. If loose tea isn’t your thing, it comes in a sachets as well. (Kusmi Tea, $26)

Ooooh all great ideas! I never even dreamed of more adult temporary tattoos even being available but should’ve known, really cool idea!
Diane says
Thanks, Alex! Tattly has all kinds of cool tattoos if you’re in the mood for some fake ink! Happy holidays to you!
Sara @ SimplySaraTravel says
I love these ideas! That mug has my name written all over it, and I love that pillow! Happy Holidays!!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Great list of gifts, especially that pillow! 🙂 Hope you’re having a good week, Diane.
Diane says
Thanks, and totally forgot to credit you for telling me about the pillow (fixed!). Hope you’re enjoying your week as well! xx

I’m totally a fan of getting things for Christmas that I would have normally bought for myself. Something about getting socks or toothbrushes (even really boring gifts), or a notebook, makes me really happy because then I don’t have to actually spend money on those things.
Diane says
Yeah, normal things or even a slightly upgraded “normal” things is my favorite type of gift. Like instead of plain Lipton tea from the grocery store, Kusmi Tea tins. Or instead of a plain planner, the Whitney English one I pictured above. Christmas is a time to celebrate and I’m all for it! Thanks for commenting!
