I love t-shirts and would wear one every day if I could. I’m very particular about my t-shirts and have had more misses than hits over the years. Some are deceiving and look great in the store only to fall apart after a wash or two. Others fade over time. Or never fit quite right. But last year, I nailed it! I discovered Organic Basics and finally found the best travel t-shirt for women that’s made to last — for travel and everyday life. Let’s get into my Organic Basics review!
Organic Basics review: Best travel t-shirt for women
I’m the type of person who wears t-shirts year round. Instead of a heavy sweater, I’d rather wear layers consisting of a t-shirt and a cardigan or pullover. I only like sweating when I’m working out, so even in the winter, it’s all about the layers. You won’t find me in a big woolly sweater.
Sometimes when we travel, it’s inevitable that we’re going to sweat. Between rushing to the gate, a different climate at the destination, or a hot plane, travel clothes should work with you and be versatile and comfortable.
As I said, t-shirts are one of my wardrobe staples. I’m into comfort when it comes to fashion and I’d take a comfy t-shirt any day over a silk dress shirt for work. But it’s not always easy to find a t-shirt that checks all the boxes (or a job that lets you wear t-shirts to the office ;-)).
Here are some travel t-shirt deal breakers for me: Too thin, scratchy material, comes apart in the wash, too form fitting or revealing, too short, and doesn’t hold up over time.
Luckily, after wearing out a bunch of crappy t-shirts over the years, I know exactly what a great travel t-shirt is NOT. So let me introduce you to the best travel t-shirt I’ve found and know that you’ll love too.
My favorite travel t-shirt is the Women’s SilverTech Tee from Organic Basics and I wear it even when I’m not traveling. It’s ethically made, super high quality, and is perfect for travel and life in general.
So first, here’s some background for my Organic Basics review. They’re a Danish brand I discovered last year that makes eco-friendly, ethical basics like underwear, t-shirts, activewear, and more. They ship worldwide and offer free shipping over a certain amount. That’s definitely a plus in this Organic Basics review.
Sustainability is at the brand’s core. They say it best, “That means we only choose fabrics that care for our environment and we only ever partner with factories that care about their impact, too. When we say sustainability is our core mission we don’t mean that sustainability is nice to have – we mean that it’s the only way we act.”
As you know, supporting sustainable brands is important to me and Organic Basics has quickly become one of my favorites for high-quality basics that you can feel good about buying. I also have their sports bra, muscle tank, and underwear.
So here’s my pick for your new favorite t-shirt brand…. that is eco-friendly and super well made.
The SilverTech tee and comes in black and white in sizes XS through XL. What intrigued me was that it’s made of organic cotton and SilverTech yarn that stays cooler when it’s hot and warmer when it’s cold outside. It won’t pick up any odor even when you sweat. Organic Basics explains it, “By completely covering a polymer thread with a small amount of sustainably sourced real silver and weaving it into our organic cotton we’ve created everyday basics that stay fresh and keep you fresh – so you can do more and wash less.”
In case you’re wondering, there’s nothing weird about the fabric. It’s not a spandexy or an activewear fabric better suited for the gym. It’s soft and if you told me it was regular old cotton, I’d believe you. It doesn’t feel stiff or weird — just a regular t-shirt. I chose black so that way if I did sweat (and I did in Haiti and Africa over the summer), no one would see it.
OK, let’s talk cost. It retails for 47€ and I bought it without any expectations.
Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but when you consider the fact that it will last for years and you’ll get a ton of use out of it, the price doesn’t seem unreasonable at all.
I’ve spent a ton of money on cheaply made t-shirts in my 20s and now that I know better, I do better. Someone pays the price for fast fashion, so I think if you can support brands doing better, then you should do it — especially when it’s for quality garments that you’ll wear the hell out of.
Anyway, I waited 4 months to do this Organic Basics review of my pick for the best women’s t-shirt for travel because I wanted to be sure I liked it as much today as I did on the first wear and wash. It’s shown here in the photos after a bunch of washes, and yes, I put it in the dryer every time.
The black color is almost like a brushed cotton black and not a hardcore ink black. It has a crew neck so it is conservative and can be worn in all settings. Another plus is it hits low on my hip bone (when worn normally, not pulled up or down) which means you aren’t going to flash your belly button at anyone if you lift your hands up overhead to place your luggage in an overhead bin. It’s on the longer side of normal length and can easily be tucked in.
One perk I love is that you don’t have to wash it after every wear. Even after a sweaty day of travel getting to Rwanda over the summer, the t-shirt didn’t smell at all. While I could have worn it a few more times according to Organic Basics, I ended up washing it out of habit. I’ve gone 2-3 wears without washing it and it’s never had an odor aside from deodorant, even in the summer in full humidity with temps well into the 90s F.
For reference, I’m wearing a size medium in the photos and generally wear a medium in tops. I’m 5’7″.
I feel the SilverTech t-shirt runs true to size and isn’t overly fitted nor is it overly baggy. It’s a somewhat relaxed fit although it has a flattering shape — not a big boxy tee — and a bit of stretch so it’s easy to get on and off and wears well. It’s not stiff at all. Organic Basics’ website describes the fit as “a slimmer fit and a little stretch for comfort.”
You’ll love the Organic Basics SilverTech t-shirt if:
- You want a well-made, casual t-shirt that will last for years and is also eco-friendly.
- That doesn’t have to be washed after every wear or after sweating. It won’t stink.
- Want a tee that is long enough to cover your stomach.
- You love wearing t-shirts and want a flattering one that’s great for travel and everyday life.
It might not be for you if:
- You fall outside the XS-XL size range.
- If you have a very large chest (DD cup size or above), you might find it a little snug across the chest.
- If you are short and/or have a very short torso. The t-shirt is on the longer side, which is great so it can be tucked in and not show your stomach if you lift your hands up, but you might thing it’s too long if you’re around 5′ tall.
- If you want bright colors. Right now, the tee comes in black and white and I hope that changes!
- If you’re looking for a super sexy, low-cut, snug tee.
- If you want a cheap t-shirt.
- If you want a big, billowy, oversized t-shirt that will conceal a food baby or extra belly fat. The tee is a flattering fit but not drapey.

Such a nice shirt

Great brand but note that all of their orders ship from Denmark which means that even if you’re browsing and shopping on their US site additional taxes and duties would still be applied after your order ships. That applies to all countries outside of the EU.

Hello, Diane! I purchased an Organic Basics SilverTech women’s tee a few years ago. It is no contest, the best tee shirt I’ve ever owned! I recently decided that I must have more and am crushed to learn that they no longer make it. I emailed OB to ask about it and was told that “Unfortunately, we found out that the Silvertech is not so environmentally friendly as first thought.” So sad. I have searched online for a similar 95% cotton
and 5% elastane tee, but haven’t found anything. If you find something that is as good, or nearly as good, I’d love to know!
